On January 13, in the Piñero prison, an inmate died under suspicious circumstances, and prison guards have been accused of allowing other inmates into the cell where the victim was located. During the indictment hearing on Thursday, the prosecution formalized charges against two guards identified as J.E.A., 25 years old, and G.E.R., 29 years old. The charges include doubly qualified homicide and functional abuse, due to their alleged participation in the attack that resulted in the inmate's death.
According to the investigation, the guards allegedly facilitated the access of other inmates to the pavilion where the victim was, allowing him to be brutally beaten to death. It is reported that two inmates forced the victim, Agustín de la Encina Cappelletti, to enter the security cell, where he continued to be assaulted in the internal yard; despite being later transferred to the hospital, he died due to the injuries sustained.
In the course of the investigation, the prosecution claims that the two accused guards participated in the attack by allowing several inmates to enter the area where the victim was located. Additionally, efforts are being made to identify the inmates who carried out the attack in order to include them in the judicial process for Cappelletti's murder. The prison guards have been charged with preventive detention for their alleged responsibility in the homicide of the inmate in question.
At a later moment, it is reported that one of the accused allowed four other inmates to enter the area where the victim was, causing the aggression to intensify. The situation is still developing, and investigations continue to fully clarify what happened in the Piñero prison regarding the inmate's death.
